Dodge in Içmeler 2017

Postby dodge » 28 Jul 2017 22:08

Merhabe greetings from beautiful Içmeler
Well our latest Içmeler adventure is underway flew withThomas Cook plane took off 15 min late but he must of made time up in the air as only took 31/2 hours no problems on flight transfer waiting to take us to lighthouse apartments arrived in resort at 2am took bags up to room and found a bottle of wine in an ice bucket waiting for us with a little note saying welcome home the lighthouse family which we thought was a lovely gesture.
We noticed as we got dropped off that caktus bar was open so we popped out for a late nightcap made very welcome by Cem had couple of drinks then returned to our apartment decided to unpack so we cracked open the bottle of wine and drank as we unpacked.
Eventually fell into bed about 4am woke up about 10.30 to a beautiful hot sunny day we've been for a walk today around the resort noticed a few hotels not open and a few shops have shut down or not opened for the season, resort seams very quiet spoke to a few of our Turkish friends and they said the season has not been very good.spent afternoon by the pool watching the helicopters going backwards & forwards dropping water after the bush fires yesterday.
Had a lovely evening meal at lighthouse apartments was gorgeous.
Walked up to Latina jewellers to put some jewellery in for repair found out linda has been very poorly we wish her a speedy recovery.
Rate in resort today is 453 we've noticed prices in resort have increased slightly but still good value for money.
Currently sat in Romeo & Juliets drinking dark fruit cider lovely & refreshing .Will sign off for now as always any question don't hesitate to ask ?

Merhaba Greeting from beautiful Içmeler
Now on day four of our 2017 adventure Saturday night we ate in the Golden moon champagne steak house cracking meal can understand why it's number one on trip advisor ended up in Oscars bar none of the bars are very busy infact there were only four of us in Oscars which is a shame.Been to Istanbul and had manicure & pedicure just £17 it took nearly two hours done a great job as usual money well spent.
Done our first boat trip on Erin1 had a great day best boat trip in Içmeler
booked again for Wednesday bought my first bag at Birfin bags very nice man ,ate at lighthouse last night again food excellent going to try waterfall tonight had couple of lunches at Kayra pide really nice excellent value for money changed money again today rate 4.55 resort is quieter than this time last year with some bars and restaurants only having a few customers or none at all which is a shame.
Was informed today that the Vella is closing in a few weeks for rest of the season so if anyone booked there I would contact there travel agent??
Prices on average in resort have risen about 20% but still remains good value for money
Sign off for now post back in a few days any questions don't hesitate to ask

Yes, thanks for posting, Dodge. Eren I is definitely one of the best boat trips around - and Richard at Berfin Bags is a lovely man, always happy to stop and have a chat with you even if you don't buy anything from his shop.

Hi Dodge
Where do you book for boat trip with Erin? Also is it the same route as the other trips or does it go to different points of interest? How much is it and what do you get for your money? Thanks

Merhaba from a very hot Içmeler today !!
Weather Friday & Saturday was unsettled very cloudy from the beech you could see fork lightening & little bit of rain, done 3rd boat trip yesterday great day as usual booked again for Thursday.
Rate in resort today 453
we felt an earthquake this morning about 8.30 we were told it registered 4.5 on the Richter scale felt like someone was moving the bed.
The resort continues to be very quiet spent Saturday in canary bar with our old friend as a had a really good laugh he still likes to get up to his crazy antics
Currently sat around pool in lighthouse it's so hot today, can't think of anything else so will sign off for now going for a dip.

Merhabe from a very hot Içmeler
Well just over a week to go now until we leave paradise can't believe how quickly it's gone.
Resort seemed to be quite busy last night but on close inspection a lot of people were wearing wrist bands.
We've eaten at holiday excellent value for money mehmet is lovely , champagne steakhouse & last night we had a fab meal at the chef ian had T-Bone said best he's had this holiday.
Due to go on Erin1 today but unfortunately slipped getting out of shower last night & twisted my knee so had to cancel but we will do another one soon,
So lazing around the pool in lighthouse today just had lovely lunch here too Cajun chicken baguette very nice.
Must mention that this year the misquitosate out in force and despite liberal applications of Avon skin so soft we have been bitten quite a number of times, spoke to other holiday makers and they are having the same problem.
Have been told by a number of bar owners that the council do not spray as often one told us they only spray once a week now, whatever the reason the little blighters are out in force so if your about to come over be warned.
Rate in resort is still 453 so off to chill by the pool and make that hard descision where we going to eat tonight.
Signing off for now going for a swim

Thanks for the update, Dodge - have seen a few people saying they've had problems with the mozzies this year too. We did see the mozzie man going round once while we were there in May, but if they're not spraying as frequently as usual, that may well account for the problem, which is disappointing. Hope the knee feels better soon.

It's in the same street as the Selen Hotel and Holiday Bar - if you're on the main road where the bigger Migros supermarket and Alin's are, cross over and go down the side street between Kardelen and Truva and you will come to Selam down there on the left-hand side. Lovely food and Sibyl and Turgay who run it are lovely people too.

Merhabe from another hot day in Içmeler
Well we fly home tonight or should I say early hours Friday morning currently sat in kayra pide drinking coffee after yet another lovely lunch.
Here are a few observations of the resort this year although there seems to be plenty of people walking around a lot of restaurants & bars are vertually empty most of clothes and handbag shops are not doing much better, we've noticed a lot of people walking around are wearing wristbands of different colours so it appears the all inclusives are doing better this in my opinion is a detriment to the resort as a whole.
Some people have posted on other forums that it appears to be an increase of hasseling you to go in restaurants bars & shops we have not found this and a polite no thank you does the job.
We have been coming to Içmeler for 17 years has it lost some of its charm & magic YES as with all resorts it's grown and changed is it still a place to holiday YES and we are hoping to return for 3 or 4 weeks next year but as in the words of Jessie jay "it's all about the money".
As we have priced up flights for next year Thomas cook jet 2 & monarch and for the two of us they are coming in at £1200 which is £400 more than this year hopefully the prices will come down a bit.
Finally signing off for this years holiday as going back to pool to get last of the Turkish sun for this year.
For those of you about to come over have a safe flight and hope you have as good a holiday as we've had.
Cheers Linda & Ian (dodge)

a lot of the "all inclusive" are Russians who have returned this year!!! Stayed at Munamar on our first visit and eat out half of the holiday for evening meals as food was terrible - best was the soup at midnight!!!!. Saw the Chateau over the road and have stayed there ever since twice a year for the last 3 years!!

When there in June found that we were asked to eat/drink but as Dodge states a polite no is all you need. We found that there was less hassling not more. According to the news people are booking last minute for Turkey so hopefully there will be a small influx - but looking forward to September for a chill out 2 weeks.
