Cafe Del Mar demolished

Postby ScouseFitz » 23 May 2017 15:25

Well, maybe inevitably, Cafe Del Mar was demolished today. They went to court yesterday to get a reprieve but were unsuccessful, and the place is no more. I know there were issues over land ownership, but they were employing people, providing a much loved service, presumable paying their taxes. Surely its better to have places like them as part of the economy rather than not doing. And what's left in their place, the ugly scar of a destroyed business. Bad decision.

Unfortunately Paul there have been some bad decision made and this is one of them.

Café Del Mar was in a fantastic location with great views. The walk up there, then the cold beer and warm breeze you could not ask for a better place to spend a nice quite afternoon.

It will be missed by many.

Will be interesting to see if anything else goes up in it's place.

Will take a stroll up there in four weeks see what's going on if anything.

Yeah, it's a shame. It's a regular haunt of mine on my walks and cycle rides to Marmaris. Often called in their in the afternoon to take in the lovely views and watch the boats come home. You're right. It'll be sorely missed.

Where was this place? I must have totally missed out. Is there now anything there or is it waste land?

It was one of the little cafes along the coastal path between Icmeler and Marmaris.

Is anything being built where all these lovely places are being or have been knocked down?

Don't think there is any sign of anything replacing them at the moment. Oh, and the jetties at the Deniz Kapisi and Liberty are being demolished too, although I believe they may be allowed to rebuild them in some form.

Jeez, they really are going for it aren't they. The coastline won't look the same from the water now or from the view point just as your coming over the hill and you can see the bay.
